Continuing the theme..... |
This bluegrass is absolutely scorched........
Any questions as to why Michael Cleveland has won the last 287 IBMA Fiddler Player of the Year awards? Somewhere Vassar is smiling with approval and Itzhak Perlman is questioning his decision to play the classics...

That was amazing. Even more amazing since he's never actually seen a fiddle in his life.
I'm currently really digging the songs More Time, New Camptown Races, No More To Leave You Behind, and The Golden Ticket. And Moon Man is just incredible.

Amen! I go to a fair number of bluegrass fests and always enjoy seeing him.
The first time I saw him play, I couldn't believe my ears. He plays with such feeling and intensity. A rare talent, IMO.

Jesse Brock on mandolin ain't no slouch either. Guess that's why he is an IBMA Mandolin Player of the Year.

Re: Continuing the theme..... |
Mando, have you ever seen or heard of Druha Trava (which is Czech for second grass? I ask because I knew some of those guys and their pals when lived in prague. I would help them and some "country" artists with english, lyrics, etc. Got paid in pilsner and hanging out with czech gals in the pub. Anyway, they get over to the US every now and then...

BD - That is some great stuff. I have never heard of Druha Trave - but will keep my eye out. I have to admit, seeing the drummer kick things off was a bit odd, but their breaks were solid. The only "foreign" bluegrass bands I had ever heard of were the Rock Ridge Brothers from Sweden and Jens Kruger and the Kruger Brothers.

I shouldn't mention that Tony Trischka is going to be at The Festy in a few weeks............

Outstanding!!!! I haven't found much Clarence White footage from this era.

Great player
He looks like Michael Moore and that was kind of distracting!
